SFWA Solstice Awards for 2013

I'm still not sure if the recent Solstice Award from SFWA -- given annually to "up to three persons, living or dead, who have consistently had a positive, transformative influence on the genre of science fiction and fantasy" -- replaces or is in addition to the not-seen-recently Author Emeritus award, but the Solstices are more inclusive and have less gold-watch ambiance, so I like them better.

This year, SFWA honors two people, neither one of them primarily known as a fiction writer: the late Carl Sagan (and I hope merely his name is enough to explain why) and longtime Ace editorial powerhouse Ginjer Buchanan.

Those awards will be officially presented at the Nebula Awards Weekend in mid-May in San Jose.
