Scholastic Warms Up the Money-Printing Machine

News is breaking all over the place that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released on July 21st (and so, presumably, has been recently turned in to the publisher).

The big news, to me, is that the retail price will be $34.99, which I believe is a new high for YA fiction, and close to a high for fiction of any type.

I would love to be looking at that P&L worksheet right now...

It will be discounted 40%, which makes its defacto price $21, which isn't too bad.

Still, for a $35 sticker price, I presume it will be a tome of respectable girth?

Actually Amazon has it for $18.89 -- and if they handle it like The Half Blood Prince, they'll guarantee delivery on the 21st.

And Overstock is always 10% less than Amazon, though you'll be lucky to get it by August 21st.
