Whenever an author talks about genres, there's always an unstated assumption: that the particular sub-type of that genre that this author prefers, and writes, is the type-case of the whole. And so all comparisons, to other genres and sub-genres, are seen through that lens.
In the blog world, this will lead authors who write different things to have discussions -- sometimes at the top of their lungs -- about wherein is the real source of the true and the beautiful. Luckily, some authors work across genres, or at least sub-genres, and can often make peace between warring factions.
Every author worth reading believes passionately that her work is important, even necessary.
(I won't make the links for you folks, but I bet you know what I'm talking about...)
